In this short piece, we explain how our alternative education provision works for children & young people who need a quiet academic setting.
Alternative education offers part time educational provision to children and young people who may be struggling with mainstream school. Sometimes, a child or young person may have a medical issue or is waiting for an education and health care plan. Connect2Education provides quality academic education support on an interim basis to ensure learning is maintained and no education time is ‘lost’ .
Who are we?
Connect2Education was established in January 2019. Our education centre is situated in the small market town of Stokesley. Connect2Education suits students who require one to one teaching in a small nurturing environment. We work directly with schools and academies, Virtual Schools and Local Authorities.
What do we provide?
During term time, we provide academic teaching and education support in quiet classrooms for children and young people who need a calm learning environment. We are specialists in working with students who have neuro diversity or have a diagnosis of ASC. (autistic spectrum conditions). See our in centre video
Why do we love our job?
We are a small team of teachers who have years of experience working in both mainstream schools and special schools. We love our role because of the diversity our young people bring to their learning, each student has individual qualities which we can bring out in each lessons. Teaching on a one to one basis is a core part of our offer: one to one working with a trusted teacher can help children and young people to feel more confident in their own skills and abilities.
Educational stepping- stones
Prior to the recent Coronavirus pandemic, Connect2Education teachers worked with students in a variety of settings; private homes, residential homes, school premises, libraries, and other public spaces, such as Children’s Centres. Throughout the National Lockdown period and up to the current time of publication, Connect2Education also offered on-line education provision, via Zoom. More about our one to one tuition online
This service continues to be successful for children and young people who remain in a home setting and need to access their education. Online one to one lessons with a regular teacher can provide crucial educational stepping- stones for a school aged child or young person who may be uncertain about returning to full time education.
In our experience, children and young people can sometimes feel more confident after one to one online lessons. Some students improve to such a degree, they feel able to meet their teacher for a face to face lesson. This is often a first step back into an educational setting.
Success
Our success is in our ability to support our students to access the best educational setting for their needs, whether back to school or to a new educational setting. We focus on improving confidence, supporting academic achievement and improving a child’s life chances.
